Default Changed diff ... and went slower ... What??

I have a 98 Camaro SS that when I went to the BMP a before I had it mostly stock with only a few free mods. Stock diff with stock 3.23 gears in it. With this I ran a 13.44@106 and the positive traction was not working very well (which is why it was changed)

I go out today after having an auburn unit installed with 3.73 gears, and run a 13.62@102. I haven't changed anything else other than the rear end.

The big difference today was that it was hotter and much more humid than the last time. My question is ... did the outside temp change it that much, or is the auburn unit, although much stronger, not as efficent. Also, there has been no tuning done before or after the change ... ??

Is there something else that I need to check .. or purchase ... ??

What is the 60'? Yes, the weather will play a major roll in times.

well 3.73 gears are usually a pretty good ratio for 1/4 mile runs. 3.42's u have to shift into 4th usually right at the 1/4 mark...

Your MPH went down quite a bit.. your 60 wouldnt affect your MPH.

Weather can kill though your times... or because its near gearing your not shifting at the best points anymore cuz ur not use to it?

+1 on the hot weather.

Also I take it you have an auto? 3.23 = auto.

Honestly.... I woulda bought a 3200+ stall for that thing before i got gears and a new posi.

I do have an A4 ... and your right ... I can definately see where a stall would help ... the main reason for getting the gears and diff first is because I have been to the track 2 times .. .and had rear end trouble 2 times ... the change was mandatory.

I think that the next thing is a stall ...

There were quite a few people that I spoke too that said their times were slow, but most were saying 1 to 1.5 sec. which means that I didn't gain anything ... (well, except traction)

This thread is useless without the 60' times. The 60s will tell the tale guy my guess is that the new gears allowed you to spin more on a hot day and you had a higher 60' time thus a higher ET.

well the mph should have been somewhat close given the same weather conditions. but yes, a 4mph change in trap speed due to weather isnt uncommon. and i think that is all you really ran into.

Maybe next time I'll just fill the engine bay with ice ... that should take care of it .. lol

whenever I replace the cam, I should be able to take better advantage of the power band anyway, and it cost too much to change back, so we'll work with it.
