Default Found On Road Dead.........

No not my stang, my wifes LS1. She called me on my way home from work to say that she was inline at the bank and pulling out she noticed the temp was in the red and the check engine light was on. So she quickly crossed the street into a parking lot and shut it off. I got there and the fluid was alittle low. I put a half of a container in and drove home. I let it idle in the driveway and noticed something.

When I run the a/c the pass side fan kicks on. I assume this is normal. But once it starts to get hot I thought the drivers side is supposed to kick on. Her car has 2 fans, one for high and one for low right? There was no sign of any leakage and the car never started to smoke. I checked the oil and it was good and clean(did a oil change less than 50 miles ago). The temp passed 3/4 of the way and never did the drivers side fan kick on. What could this be? Thanks. -Mark

Same problem as me. ur motor probably went bad, U can get a replacement motor for the fan, for like 30-40 bucks at auto parts store, and take the assembly lose, and I here that motor replacement is quite easy(As opposed to buying a whole new assembly)

I'd agree, just sounds like the fan motor went bad... same thing happened on my bro's 97 z, then it shortly after blew a headgasket.

weird. I have never heard of the LS1 fans going bad...

Just push up on the fans about 1.5 inches and that will get them out of the tabs and they should come right out. I don't think you have to remove the hose or anything. Just unclip the 3 lines of wiring(split loom) that is all connected to it. There is LOTS.

**edit**On second though you may be able to get the motor out withotu even removing the fan assembly

Well, took it to a mechanic this morning cause I had a gut feeling it wasnt the motors. I called the guy around 4 and he said 2 fan relays were faulty. It will be done Monday morning. What's the normal operating temps for these cars anyways? Hers sits at 210*. But thanks for all the info guys. -Mark

That would be about the correct temperature.

if you have a 180 stat in that thing, it should never go over 190/200, and should usually sit pretty damn close to 180.
