LS1 Heads ... Build 'em or Buy 'em
Hoping to get opinions from some that have done it ... I'm up to the part where I want to get parts ready to setup the top of the motor in my '98 Camaro SS(LS6 intake, heads, cam, etc.) and I am trying to decide between getting a set of good used heads and getting them machined then building them with my choice of parts, or just ordering a set of performance heads ... Which is better with cost vs. performance as a factor ... ??
Also, if you buy the heads ... any recommendations ??

Right now there are a lot of options out there and most shops using GM based cores are giving them away. The AFR is a good piece, especially on relatively mild combos they really shine due to their smaller runner cross-section which help their power curve, but factoring their cost....There are several new heads out/coming out that will reset the standard for aftermarket LS heads. So in my honest opinion..If you're on a budget, a factory casting done properly is hard to beat. But if money is no object, and you're looking for lower RPM power, I'd go AFR...But if you're trying to build a "killer"...I'd get some of the new castings from someone like All-Pro/Callies etc...JMO
