Default MAF Testing and Limp Mode

I was looking for a way to test if my MAF is operating properly, someone mentioned if I disconnected it, it would go into limp mode

what exactly is limp mode and how are some ways to test the MAF?

It will run off speed density tables in the PCM. Not well though. The nice think about MAF is that it can adjust itself to a lot of mods and conditions. SD does not have that capability and requires adjusting the tables for everything.
