Default C6 production STOPPED at the corvette factory!

The Corvette Plant has been shut down.

From the NCM
(UPDATED: 5:30P CST 10/6/2004)

The R8C museum deliveries are not cancelled, but we have postponed the deliveries of the C6 Corvette 6-speed for next week until we hear more on the problem with the 6-speed transmissions.

We will deliver all of the automatics next week and any automatics in the future once the line starts up. The assembly line had something break and they sent workers home today and they will not report tomorrow.

Once the mechanical problem on the line itself is corrected, my understanding is they will continue to build automatics.

Any Corvettes with automatic transmissions that have been built will be delivered at the NCM once we can get them from Allied.

From Rick "Corvette" Conti
(UPDATED: 5:30P CST 10/6/2004)

There is what they believe to be a problem with the 6-speed manual transmissions. It's my understanding from speaking with the NCM that a new truckload of transmissions are on the way to Bowling Green, KY - hopefully by Friday afternoon.

This appears to be a short term problem and I will keep you informed with the latest info on this issue.

Of course with the entire line down...yes it effects the production of the automatics too, no Corvettes are being produced at this time.

How does this affect existing 6-speeds already delivered...good question! We are in touch with General Motors and will continue to update you with the latest information.

Sorry for the news folks, but this is the real side of retail production....just so happens it's on a car America loves so very much!

Not trying to be a dick but how can things like this keep happening. With all the testing of new cars import/domestic how can car companies keep doing this? It is funny that everytime a new model comes out they release it only to have problems. I guess the rule of dont buy anything the first year it is made still stands true. By the way this isnt directed at GM. This is a problem in the industry.

GM does not make the trannies...TREMEC does AFAIK....if the trannies get botched GM can't do anything about it. Their supplier screwed up.

I'm sure you've fabbed things before, owning a turbo honda. I don't know about you, but I usually don't get things exactly right the first time when I'm making a simple bracket or something out metal, let alone designing and producing complex parts that make up an entire vehicle. If the recall on the trannies took this long, its probably something that 90% of the owners won't experience, but they still have to avoid warranty work and possible lawsuits.
