Default high torque mini starter

I need one for the chevelle (its got a 350) and from what I see they are sold depending if I have a 153 or a 168 tooth fly wheel, and it never fails, I don't know. I do know the bolt pattern on my starter is starggered and not in line.

Is the diference between the starter for a 153 flywheel and the 168 flywheel just the bolt pattern, or is the actual gear on the starters diferent? Can someone please educate me .

well the few that I've seen have bolt pattern for both flywheels. but only for the inline patterns.

i have yet to see a mini starter with staggered bolt pattern.

i think most blocks are drilled with all three holes. if yours is, then anyone will fit. just use the holes that line up.

Thank you!
I got under there and looked and the block is drilled w/ another hole straight across. I guess for the starter. I didn't think about that.
I have a friend selling one I was going to put in today but it has the straight pattern and I thought it wouldn't work, so I just waisted a day. Oh well, I'll start now, I have to take that header off to get my old one out so its a pain in the ass. But at least I think this one will work .

So in the catalogs when they say 153 or 168 tooth flywheel they are talking about the bolt pattern?

lol.. I realize the dif. in the fly wheels is one is bigger, but the starters are sold depending on the flywheel tooth count. I'm trying to figure out what is different between the starters .

all the ones i've see fit both. as long as the block has the in line holes taped. all the starters i've seen. have 2 sets of holes and will fit either flywheel you have.

other than that i'd say call there tech line and ask. don't know why they'd list them by fly wheel

There were a couple advertised with staggered holes that were flywheel specific. The one she got from a friend had straight holes, but only one set, and of course, it was the wrong one.

It's an AC Delco, and when we ran the part # it came from a vette and was for a 153 tooth flywheel. When we matched it to mine we could see the difference in the offset and that told us I had the bigger flywheel. Oh well.

Now the dog has to go to the vet this week and thats priority so I'll have to wait on the new starter a week or two. I can always try to fix the column in the mean time .
