Your best bet for increase in hp will be headers and an induction setup and a little bit of tuning.

LS1 do not have chips or anything of the sort. The programmers that suck are the HPP3's you need real tuning or at least a MAFT and a dyno pull or two to tweak your a/f ratio.

What does the car have done to it now? If it is all stock then don't bother with a "chip" or any of the other reprogramming devices. Best way to gain HP is not with a "chip". First add a direct flow air lid, then swap out MAF ends. Get rid of the paper filter and get a K&N or equivilent. After that add a good catback exhaust system to let the car breath. I know for a fact that this will take you from about 285 at the rear tires to 300 to 310 at the wheels. The intake tract on the LS1 Fbody is a monster of a design. I belive it is purposely made to restrict the incoming air to the motor to keep the HP from being the same as the LS1 Corvette. The Restrictive stock exhuast needs to go and you need to open the intake tract up before you start looking at tuning.

anything is better than flowmaster....

Don't spend anymore more money on little things. GET HEADERS. Best bang for your buck on the 98's especially. Worst manifold design of the LS1's.

Get a cheap set of pacesetter's or something.

ANY headers will do. Even the pacesetters are doing fine. I just would get the coated kind if you are gonna spend the extra money.

Pacesetters/hookers are almost identical afaik.

IMO it all depends how much you want to spend on exhaust.

Not sure of the camaro's particular set up, But if possible see if you can run true dual exhaust with no cats, back to magnaflows or a hign flow exhaust. I have Hooker headers, no cats with true duals back to magnaflows. Best bang for the buck as long as you have a good intake with a performance air filter. Jumped the car up about 25 hp. You can then throw a chip in to jump it up about another 10hp.

$200 is not bad for a header install. Mine was $250.
