Everyone will call my crazy for suggesting this, but ...

I'm assuming you have an LT1. My mom has a 97 z28 with a 60 or 70 series flowmaster with everything else stock on the exhaust and it sounds fucking awesome. At first the car was moderately louder than the stock exhaust note, but once that muffler breaks in it starts to get a little louder and starts sounding incredible.

I would suggest getting a Magnaflow muffler for the car. It will give more hp than the flowmaster and will sound better too. I have a catback Magnaflow setup on my LS1 and it sounds awesome and has potential to be louder if you go with off road pipes (ie take off the cats).

If you're just going to change muffler only get the Hooker aero chamber or magnaflow. Flowmaster is chokemaster

I remember 5.0 mustang magazine did a test on mufflers. 15 or so different companies on a sb ford with almost 400hp to the wheels. Each muffler was within a few hp of the next with no real difference in torque curves or anything.

Why does everyone say that these other mufflers flow SO much better?

Hooker is pretty quiet at idle or light acceleration.
