Default Polishing rods for strength

When smoothing the casting ridge on cast small block rods should you smooth the entire side of the rod down so it is flush or just polish the very top of the casting ridge?

talking bout this here.

Casting ridge is an easy place for a crack to start and if it spreads then the rest of the rod will break.

Just not sure how much to smooth off.

I wouldnt grind it off totally, just smooth the rough edges and polish it. Its commonly done to remove the possibility of stress cracks.
