also what kind of boost can be run on these engines with a stock bottom end ( safely ).
also what is reccommended for a rear end since the stock one will probably die with any amount of hp over about 200hp?

is the optispark the type of distributor that can have a coil upgrade by removing the internal coil and running the coil wires to an external msd coil like the blaster ss. what is the main issue that causes the optispark to have the reputation of being a pain? and why not just replace with an msd distro then? or am i just repeating what others have asked before?
I checked the lt-1 and from what I found it looks the have 265 - 330hp depending on whether it came from a caprice or a camaro and what year, it also gets 17-24mpg city/hwy (at least thats what the factory says).
for turbo later on what boost can the stock internals take? 10-12psi like other engines with a 10:1 compression or is it less? eventually I will rebuild the engine with a strong bottom end and lower compression to accomodate the higher boost that I may run. any suggestions?

The optispark setup has an external coil setup, you can run a upgraded coil and even plug an MSD if you wanted too. It is nothing like a regular distubitor.
Caprice cop cars had iron headed lt1s, the fbody and vettes had alumn heads. The 330 hp are the LT4 motors, which had a better cam, bigger valves in the heads and a better intake over the lt1s
