Why are longer gears better for boost?
With any kind of FI or air/fuel additive, your Rpm's are gonna rap out faster(than N/A), and with serious boost and say an B16 tranny (where the gears are seriously short, something like a 4:50 final drive ratio, but not 100% sure) you are gonna go threw gears quicker than you can shift, and most likely have to shift 5th in the 1/4 mile. which will majorly kill your E.T. and MPH

5th gear is OD (unless you have a 6 speed)
Do you really wanna ride out the 1/4 mile in OD???
you should set your gearing so that you are close to redlining 4th gear as you trap, that will be the best setup seeing as you will be at full boost when traping(note this is how it should be for all motors. boosted N/A or juicing, its all about the gearing)

Look at it this way, everytime you shift during the 1/4 mile your hurting your ET. Thats why it is good to have longer gears so you can stay in a higher gear and let the boost build as far as you can take it. Most turbo honda guys end up building hybrid trannies so they can have the best of both worlds. do some looking around in honda/acura tech.....this is a subject we have all talked about alot over the years.

It has nothing to do with shifting. If your setup is right, you should lose minimal spool between shifts.
Mr2 is right.... turbos LOVE load. Helps them boost longer and harder. Ever notice how as you're approacing the top of a gear, the turbo "lightens up"? Its because the load is getting much less.
We;ve been gearing our dodges taller for years with only positive results!
Another byproduct of it is that you gain traction.. its like moving up to taller size tires.
