Washing the engine
About a week ago, I got my head gasket replaced and during the job my mechanic managed to spill around 4 quarts of oil on my engine and miscellaneous other parts of my car (like on my seats)
. So, I've been driving it a lot lately and it's still smoking like a mofo. I need to get this hunk of smoking crap washed but I need some advice cuz I've never washed an engine before. I already know that the engine needs to be cold before I do it but other than that, Im lost. I just want to know if I need to unplug any electrical devices or anything before I begin. I also heard that Simple Green works the best, if there is any rhyme or reason to go with something else then please let me know. Thanks.

Yo' man 2 words for you BRAKE CLEANER. goto discount autoparts and get the cheapest brake cleaner which is like 1.25 a can and it works like magic on your engine man seriously. you can spray it anywhere i.e. electrical connections and so on.... but dont mix with oil. For your interior take it to someone for serious stains but if not goto a place like baywash and use there foam / vacuum cleaner.
Yeah, just spray brake cleaner or carb cleaner all over it, then wash it off with soapy water, dish soap does good. Just hose it down, it wont hurt a thing.

Simple Green...nuthin better. They use that stuff to clean animals during oil spills. Stuff works. It'll clean your engine and get the oil off your interior. I've used it, swear by it!

Annother vote for Simple Green. As was pointed out engine bright and brake cleaner will eat plastic and rubber so unless you can pull all plastic\rubber parts off first don't use that stuff.
