Lewis Burwell "Chesty" Puller (June 26, 1898 – October 11, 1971) was a United States Marine Corps officer.

Beginning his career fighting guerillas in Haiti and Nicaragua as part of the Banana Wars, he later served with distinction in World War II and the Korean War as a senior officer. By the time of his retirement in 1955, he had reached the rank of Lieutenant General. Hosted by Colin D. Heaton. The Forgotten History Channel is a 10th Legion Pictures Production.

WWII Veteran Clarence (Sandy) Howell shares a couple of stories of fighting beside Chesty Puller during WWII. At times, there would be 5-7 men on patrol; Chesty was one and Howell was one. While to some it may seem like war crime who will hear the story about Puller disposing of enemy prisoners, keep in mind that the Japanese in WWII were not much different than ISIS today with their suicidal fighting mentality, brutality toward their victims, and lack of following any rules of war.

Thus, Puller had to decide if he was going to risk the lives of his own Marines attempting to keep alive an enemy who could care less about dying if it meant they could kill their captors in the process, or to make the hard decisions that come as a part of war to save his own men. Had Puller attempted to keep the captured Japanese prisoners alive, he may very well have lost his own life and the lives of his Marines.
