[h=2]DTM to open garages to fans[/h] Thursday, 06 April 2017

The Europe-based DTM touring series has mandated that its teams' garages will be open to fans on race weekends from the beginning of the 2017 season.
Three garages, one per manufacturer, will be opened for the fans, thus providing the visitors a glance into the most important zone of the teams. In the "Pit-View," the holders of a paddock ticket will be granted access to a garage that will allow them to watch work in the two adjacent garages – and this also applies to most of the DTM sessions. Visitors also will have a clear view of the pit lane.
"DTM always has been standing out for its fascinating cars, the enthralling sport and the closeness to the fans," ITR board member Florian Zitzlsperger said. "That's something we want to build on and extend, in the future, and we are making a first step on the way to doing so with Pit-View. Only the mechanics involved and the team members will get closer to the action."
Special pit walks will also be conducted on Saturday and Sunday morning during race weekends, while pit lane will also be open for one hour on Saturday evening. At circuits where it's possible, part of the roof of the pit building will also be opened to offer a clear view of the pits from above. Via the official website, DTM.com, the fans can register for backstage activities and can take part in guided tours, track walks and meet & greets.
The 2017 DTM series opens at the Nurburgring May 5-7. Pre-season testing has been going on at Hockenheim this week, with BMW's Timo Glock setting fast time at 1:30.201 in the M4 DTM, which was also the fastest time of the week and some 0.3 sec faster than Canada's Robert Wickens (Mercedes) had run when he set the pace on Wednesday. Mercedes AMG's Paul di Resta was second, just 0.037sec off Glock's pace while reigning DTM champ Marco Wittmann (BMW) was third, 0.061s back.
