I need info on importing from japan
im joining the army next month, and i asked my recruiter about this before and he said ...and i quote "it is free to have your US vehicle shipped there with the Navy, and free to ship that same US car back... If you were to purchase a Japanese model car then you would get the shipping for free, but only if the car passed all the regulations." still free shipping after regulations are cleared... that cuts off a couple grand. you could call any military office and ask them, most of em have been to japan and they would be able to tell you exactly what you need to know cause im sure they get asked it alot... mine helped... hope it helped & good luck... j/w what kinda car?

Rule of thumb for military is = If you ship a car overseas, you can ship one back. All the military covers is the cost of shipping...nothing else.
In the case of Japan, shipping a vehicle TO JAPAN must be made before 1976. Shipping back, it can be any vehicle, but if it doesn't meet US specs, thenyou must pay to convert it. On a newer vehicle, this can cost upto $10,000 or more.
I should really add a FAQ page about this on my website....so much "mis-information" out there.
