Default Unregistered, wrong tag.. who knows their traffic laws????

working on a project, had no option but to take the car out (stupid, but my options were very limited). Got pulled over on us19, cop was pretty open ears to my side of the story as to why i had an intoxicated passenger next to me. regardless, i was issued a court date with the main topic being "wrong tag on wrong car" or whatever the technical wording is. Now, the tag i had on there was not yet expired, (under my name), but did not belong to the car i was driving. also, the car i was driving was not under my name. so, if anyone could help me out, and maybe let me know what im up against?? hopefully just a ticket?

Attaching Tag Not Assigned - Tampa Ticket Attorney Blog - Fight Your Tampa Traffic Ticket
That's what I got from the Google box. Basically you may be able to get out of it if the cop technically didn't see you do it. However since you said you told the cop your story I'm guessing it's too late to play dumb and deny everything. Jail time is possible, as is probation but you're more likely to just get a fine, as long as your record is pretty good. You're better off driving with no tag then with the wrong tag.

Pay your fine and be done with it, you're lucky he didnt impound your car.

Of all places you went out on US19 like that? If the car was in your name the excuse of wrong tag may have worked. But you were better off having no tag on the vehicle then putting one not registered to that vehicle and driving a vehicle not belonging to you. Im surprised they didn't impound it and look into if it was stolen or not.
