A generic How to: headlight switch fix

How To: Fix/Rebuild Low/High beam headlamp switch
[HR][/HR]As many of you know that getting a new combo switch or even the headlamp switch is either impossible or very hard. If you notice your headlamps flickering at times, or cutting off when you go from high beam to low beam, that is a sign to take the switch and clean it up. This is a very simple procedure. Below i have rebuilt my spare switch as a reference for you guys. The one i am using currently in the car was rebuilt by me as well and works great.
The materials needed.
1. Combo Switch
2. Di-Electrical Grease
3. 800 Grit sandpaper
4. Two tie wraps
5. Screw driver(Phillips and flat)
6. Rubbing alcohol and paper towels.

First: You will need to remove the combo switch from the vehicle. If you do not know how this is done, download the shop manual and figure it out. Very simple. With that being said, you need to remove the 4 screws holding the windshield wiper unit on and the 2 screws holding the headlight switch.(Illustrated below)

After removing those screws the windshield wiper control unit will come out without a problem. The headlight switch however has two clips holding it on. They need to be pushed in and up to get them out. Be careful not to break them.

Second: After removing both units, you should see something like this.

Now you need to remove the little sliding bar that activates your parking lights and headlights when the switch is moved.

Set it aside, but do not lose it.
Flip the switch over and locate the 2 white tabs that hold the main part of the low/high beam switch. They look like this:

This is where you should be:

Now that you have it apart it's time to clean. Make sure you use alcohol to clean up all the old grease and 800 grit sandpaper to sand clean the contacts on the switch and everything else.
Here is a trick to clean this little piece on the low/high beam switch itself

You can push it in from the other side, not hard to figure out.
Fourth:
Grease up all the contacts with Di-electrical grease. Here is where i would recommend the grease.

The last picture shows a little plate that switches
from high to low beam or vice versa. Install it like this with some grease:

Now install the main part of the low/high beam switch:

Now the sliding bar that you took out earlier that activates your headlamps, you need to clean the contacts on it and put grease on every side of it because it slides, then install it as illustrated:

That is it for rebuilding the switch. Here is what else i would recommend cleaning up while you're at it. The switch for the turn signals. It looks something like this:

All you do is remove it, and clean off all old grease, clean the contacts, and re-grease and place it back
Now the put all the units back. Make sure all the switches on the control arm all set to off when doing this. Then just put them back the way they were and screw them down. Last part of all of this is to use those tie wraps to fasten the wiring. The illustration below speaks for itself.
