Default A shop horror story

Everyone has heard of different shop horror stories. This is mine and involves 1 other person who also has a car that was supposed to be finished by Bryan (BA Customs), aka 351coupe.

This goes back 1 year and 4 months ago. Thats how long Bryan has had mine and Tony's (aka Dr Dirt) car. Bryan came highly recommended. I had seen his previous work. Pictures and in person. He does great work. That is not in question here.

How ever. Tony and I both delivered our cars to Bryan in Jan of 2011 and paid him cash up front, approx $6000 between the 2 of us. Bryan promised to have our cars completed in a few months. Those who know will know that Bryan had some personal as well as health issues come up during the first few months while handling our cars. Despite my frustration and impatience we gave Bryan a lot of concern and time in order to get over his problems. This time has come and gone. During this time and even up to now, Bryan has failed to stay in communication with me, no phone calls, no emails, not even a text to let me know the progress of my car. The only time I ever heard from Bryan was days to weeks after I would try to contact him and he would return with more empty promises to have my car completed.

Now recently Tony (Dr Dirt) is having his own health issues which happen to be life threatening, and even now Bryan does nothing but make empty promises and zero progress on either of our cars. Tony has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is undergoing treatment and is scheduled for surgery as I type this. More info on Tony can be found here. https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/f...pped-into.html

I have tried to get in contact with Bryan for more than a month now with no success. I can only assume that Bryan has no intention of ever completing mine or Tony's car. Here is a guy who might die before seeing his car completed and Bryan shows virtually zero empathy. I have made arrangements to bring my car to another shop to have the work done that I paid Bryan to do. I know Bryan will never pay me back.

I just want it known to all who are thinking about using BA Customs (Bryan) to do any large projects for you, to think again. This guy is unpredictable, unreliable, and has scammed us for over a year and a half with no relief in sight except to take my car some where else.

He has our cars parked out side in the weather,. unprotected, rusting and neglected all the while he parties it up, riding his bike doing wheelies across the bridge, trying to do work for everyone else except for us who have already paid him in full.

I will post this message to every media outlet, car forum, craigslist, twitter, facebook, everyone I can, so perhaps others do not share our fate.

1 year and 4 months later this is all Bryan has to show for $6000 of our money. The blue one is mine and the orange car is Tonys. Is this fair to you?

.

Sincerely,

Hurst

You should look into taking him to court. This is unacceptable! Good luck with getting the car finished.

My wife is handling that aspect.

Her lawyer says the best we can hope for is to place a judgement on him and collect from any tax returns or lottery winnings he might get in the future.

I'm sure there will be a million nut swingers on here defending his 'work' because he gave someone a good deal at some point.

Sucks to hear this though man. Good Luck. I don't think ill ever understand why someone would trust this kind of shop with that kind of work. Ive seen full blown customer shops take care of full restos in two months while continuing to operate all other customers & collisions. I don't get how you trust someone who would take 3 months to do 2 weeks worth of paint work or asks you to pay up front.

While I'm sorry that you have had to deal with this, I have one question.

You paid up front before any work was done?

I understand putting down a "deposit" of some sort, and I hope that it was $3,000 from both of you as a deposit, but paying for work before it's done at any shop is kind of asking for trouble IMO.

I always do it the Italian mobster way: Half the money now, and the other half when it's done.
