Default Importing cars from Europe

What's the procedure for that?? I know about getting cars here from like Japan, but what about Europe? Was just wondering, and had a friend ask me about it recently.

Does the car have to go through a place similar to Motorex.....or are most of them more compliant with our emissions/crash standards and such?

You can call customs in your port of entry. They will tell you what you need to do, and have list of registered importer (like motorex).

Well then you have to get it inspected and it had to pass US standards that comply with DOT standards,This car might be considered safe by another countrys standards but not by ours.

Thats something you should get info on also.

small small example, mini coopers after a certain year cannot be imported into the US legally because they are unable to comply with US standards, I believe 67 and newer. My friend used to get them imported all the time, I'll see if I can get some better info from him for ya.

Don't confuse importing a car with getting on the road.

Getting a car shipped to the US is the easy part.

Getting it tagged and legally on the road is the hard part.
