Who monitors Consumer Reports?
so i'm bored and at work, leafing through the consumer reports new car guide for 2003...
looking at all the big suv's i see the excursion.
well evidently if you get a the 2000 xlt 4-door suv 4wd, 6.8 litre v10, 4 speed auto you get the following performance...
0-30.......................2.1 sec
0-60.......................6.5 sec (WOW)
quarter mile, sec.....11.1 (horry krap!)
quarter mile, mph....52 (huh?)
i guess they kind o messed that up, assuming it should be 21.2 secs to 1/4, that would put it on par with the 1st gen civillian humvee.
so who checks consumer reports for their quality?

i think the speed limiter is slow, or maybe it runs out of gas before the traps...
lesse 11.1-6.5=5.5 secs at 60mph or higher...
ok so at 60 mph, the vehicle can only travel 484 feet in 5.5 secs, if its speed is constant, less distance because we know it is slowing down to be at 52 mph at the 1/4 mark.
therefore we can see that the excursion accelerates to 60 mph, faster than it can go in the distance of 1/4 mile, and then slows down.
it is my deduction then that the test was started with the vehicle on a very sharp decline, then curving back uphill towards the end.

I just think they had a mile head start before they tripped the initial sensors. The 1/4 mile was comprised of a braking test...118mph to whatever you can muster in a 1/4 mile. That would explain the 52mph trap speed. You know those guys at Consumer Reports can be really wild and crazy guys.
