Default Fabrication materials.

I'm looking at welding in a custom cage, and hacking up my car in general. Anyone know what kind of materials would be best, and where I could get them?

Chassis and Suspension tech has almost no info on this and has even less traffic. So this thread stays here.

If it is for any sanctioned racing there won't be much "custom" to it. Do you have a pipe bender and tig welder?

Tig welder yes, pipe bender no. I'll be having someone else bend it for me.

If you are drag racing use chromoly for the cage and mild for the baseplates. If your car is for roadrace or drifting mild steel would probably be a better choice since the metal is far less brittle especially at the weld joints.
