Default Checking intrest in a new business

Im looking into starting a small business, restoring interior plastics, including but not limited to, dashs, kick panels, pillar trim, ect.
Specific to the miata I am able to refinsh dashes wether it just be the top half back to black or the whole dash with two tone. I would even be able to do LE dashes or Look alike LE dashes once I had a good color match.
Im also planing on making new door cards (the firber board backing) for all na maybe Nb if they are the same door panel style. These would be sold in many variations.
The trim work can be done on anything with trim just need to get the correct color products in.
The only part that might become of concern is with panels that have cracks or gouges the pattern of texture will not always match correctly as there is no way to perfectly match the original grain.
My main focus would be on the interior trim restoration or color change.
Types of work I would be doing would include;
trim restoration including fixing small cracks
Dash restoration
Plastic lips with small cracks could be fixed.
rear filler panels
Door panels
Top installs
Car stereo installs
Oil changes
tune ups ect
OBD2 scans
most other maintance work or performance installs
Eventually
headlight restoration with clear coat
wheel painting
head light and tail light smoking
full paint shop
I would also like to become a megasuirt dealer.

Im trying to gauge interest in this time of work.

I know of a guy in New York area that does this and makes a good living. You would alos want to look into a dealer network to touch up new and used cars for dealers. Good Luck

Default Starting up a product

I would look into the year car that cutoff production of stock dashes.

I would look at number of car registrations of that type car.

That will give you the size of the market for your dash reproductions.
Otherwise it is pointless to make them for cars that few people own.

Make one, take pictures, sell it over ebay. make another one and sell it.

When you have sold ten over ebay, get back with me and we will
talk about taking the product to bigger markets.-Bob

^ speaks the truth

if you can't get the product itself to move on ebay and local places like craigslist and what not, then you won't be able to sustain a full time business with it.

Personally, it sounds like a fantastic way to make a stack of extra cash on the weekends and after hours. But I wouldn't quit my job to do it full time.
But, if you play your cards right, and you're good with your money and disciplined with capitol, then this could be something to get the ball rolling for bigger better things. The hard part about this sort of thing is that it takes so much more than just an awesome product. You have to be awesome at business too, and thinking you are and proving that you are, are in fact, two totally different things.
