Ok, so hold on a minute.... Just Dave said there were axles connecting the gas motor to the wheels. That's not what this article is saying.

The gas motor is still just a generator producing electricity. Whether it charges batteries, directly powers an electric motor, or both... who cares? It's basically all part of the same electrical system. It's still a type of hybrid, always has been and always will be, but it's NOT the same type of hybrid as a Prius. So what's the big deal?

That's the point, its a hybrid and not the EV that Chevrolet promised.

I don't recall them ever calling it a true EV? Show me where they said that 'cause I never saw it.

If I remember correctly they advertised it as a full EV during the Superbowl last year.

I was at the dentists office this morning reading the December 2010 Car and Driver. They had a 4 page advertisement for the Volt and in it, they refer to the gas engine as a generator and also had a reference (I forget the exact wording) to it being purely electric with a backup generator if the battery runs low.

From Chevy's web site 2011 Chevy Volt | Chevrolet

the gas-powered onboard generator can take you wherever you need to go
A small, quiet on-board gas generator
The term generator implies that the gas motor only provides electrical energy to the batteries.

Here is the jalopnik article with all kinds of helpful links to Chevy's deceit.

Those weren't "loans" my friend, that was the Government purchasing GM.

Ok... I'm sorry but that is just dumbest and most incorrect statement I've ever heard. Where the hell do you get that from, that the term "generator" implies only providing power to batteries? A generator generates electricity.... that is ALL! That electricity can go to batteries, or an electric motor, or whatever else on the car is using electricity at the time. Anything else you read into it is YOUR mis-comprehension... not GM being deceitful.

Correct, a generator generates electricity, it does not turn axles which turn tires which move a car.

Did you even follow the link with all of the details?
