I'm headed back from the Cotee River Bikefest late Saturday night.
These are some observations about traffic around me.......

I had exited from the Bayside Bridge and was headed East toward the banked right hand sweeper in front of St Pete/Clearwater Airport. I was in the right-most of two lanes. It was late night.

Two bikes went into the banked right hander fully leaned over and fully on the gas. I don't mind that you go fast, that's between you and the cops.
I don't mind that your line thru the turn apexed right in front of my car.
There's darn few things that bug me in traffic.

The average street turkey driver would have the impression that you "cut him off".......and if you keep cutting it that close to cars on the street, if you miscalculate and make even a small amount of contact, we both know who loses.

Also, consider if you will, that when you make a left turn and the back end breaks traction, you and the bike slide to the right and off the edge of the road. When you made a right turn, in the dark, had there been some debris in the road, you and your bike would have slid to the left and into the meat grinder of multiple oncoming cars.....but the story isn't over-Bob

 

As I'm now headed South to the uphill left hander that leads down to Ulmerton Road (merging about where Sunshine is) , it doesn't bother me that the "pack" of about 8 other bikes and some chase cars now pass me on both sides of the two lane road.

Once on Ulmerton facing East, I drove by you guys stopped on the South side of the road at the first traffic light that leads South to LKQ recyclers. That was a lucky break for you. That way you didn't get bagged by the cop on the South side of the road who was parked in the driveway of one of those fast food places.

You started passing me and others again after the right hand sweeper, and continued passing past the left hand sweeper, driving by me until we got past that traffic light leading into the business complex. It doesn't bother me that some of you passed on the yellow line to my left as others were white-lining it down the middle and some passing on the white line on the right, but there was some other traffic, and had they decided to change lanes to get out of your way, one or more of you would have got dumped.

You stopped at the traffic light where 3 lanes turn East onto Gandy and I caught up with you again when you were sitting still.........but there's more.....-Bob

 

I pulled up in the right-most of those 3 left turn lanes and stopped, waiting for the light to turn green so I could turn left and go East on Gandy. Most of you were in the two left turn lanes, but when the light turned green, one of you swung wide to the right, into my lane and really close in front of me. I'm not bothered by that, 'cuz all I was doing was going straight East to get over Gandy Bridge and I'm in the right-most lane. I moved over to the right as far as I could to give you room, but the average street turkey driver isn't going to get out of your way as quick as I did. If you are going to go fast, going fast in your own lane keeps you alive longer.

In front of the dog track, headed East, you got another lucky break.
There were flashing lights on the West end of Gandy Bridge, South side,
and as I got closer to the bridge, I could see that the cops were busting Honda drivers who were hanging out in the small parking lot. ...and did not notice when you went past, and onto the bridge.

Once on Gandy Bridg , you folks disappeared into the distance toward Tampa, and I thought I would not see you on the road again that night.

But each time you had blasted through the cluster of cars of which I was part of, I thought I would not see you on the road again. But then you stopped for whatever reason, and I would drive normally past.
.....essentially setting myself up for you to pass us all and start the process all over again.

It isn't driving fast that kills bikers, it's hitting things. There might be
fewer cars sharing the road with you on some back roads.....and maybe less things to hit.

Oh. a helmet without the strap fastened looks cool in the movies, but in real life, no strap fastened means you have a helmet only for the first impact, and after the helmet's gone, guess what hits things next?......you don't have to answer that........-Bob

 

Sounds like some typical d-bag bikers. Theres the people that know the limits and have repsect... then theres the idiots that go out racing everything and trying stunts in front of cars then fall and get hit.

 

Yes it kinda sucks when people like that set loose on the street, Also tho im sure that unstrapped helmet guy was hating life at about 100mph when it smacks you in the neck. Ive forgot to strap it on a few times and it beats the shit out of your neck.

 

Get it just about everyday with these idiots riding like they do, One dumb ass tried to pass me on the shoulder though it was a harley with his nasty ass bitch riding behind, He had the balls to start yelling shit and threatening to kick my ass, That bumper sticker that says watch out for motorcycles is a crock because 90% of them need to watch out for cars and stop acting like their shit don't stink.

not sure what the point of this post is... even if it reached the persons on the bikes, even if they took heed of your warnings, even if every biker on TR read and agreed to end that behavior, you'd still have this happening. Theres a few certainties in life...

A) taxes
B) the sun will rise tomorrow
C) hondas get stolen
D) you will get lowballed on tr classifieds
E) kids on bikes (and cars) have more balls than brains

But i suppose the message bears repeating anyway
