the new FHP Z28's are having problems with the electrical systems. I've heard quite a few stories about them shutting down in speed chases.

the article says that the ford crown victoria is used in 80% of the country's law inforcement. what the article fails to tell you is that that is because chevrolet ceased production on the caprice. when the caprice was still in production its what i saw cops driving ALL over the place.

the crown vic is pretty much the only domestic RWD large sedan in production, so its pretty much the only choice.

camaros work for the FHP because highway control people are generally not arresting people and transporting them in the back, so the extra pair of doors & back seat arent as important.

i got stopped in upstate NY about 5 years ago and the NY highway patrol was using camaros then too (this was before the Z28 was LS1 powered)

with a fast enough car and driving into a headwind, you can outrun a helicoptor. their groundspeed is largely depending on their air-speed

yes, an airplane/helicoptor can fly backward if their air speed is less than the head wind if they are flying into the wind.

as far as radar goes... as fast as your car may be, it is not faster than the speed of light.

dude.. i am not saying my car is fast enough.. but most of the energy by the helicoptor's engine is used to create LIFT and keep the helicoptor from spinning (the tail propeller).. most helicoptors do NOT have a very fast land speed. they were not designed to go far or fast.. their design is in their flexibility, the ability to hover, or fly straight up or down)

in chases they are used to SPOT the offender, not follow them.

I've out run a helicopter before, (not in my car), and thought I got away clean. The next day the police were waiting at my house. They didn't need to follow me any more, and just tracked me the rest of the way with their equipment...
