a decent downpayment and money in the bank, along with your good credit, would get you approved.

OP: when i was 18, i went out and bought a car for $7500....i put down 2k up front, and got approved for a loan without a co-signer, for 6% IIRC...i didn't need the car or particularly love the car i got, but i knew it would help my credit down the line....now i have A+ credit and can get a loan for whatever....it's all about starting small and working your way up

Is it hard if you have a part time job and can't show like a steady income? Even if you do make enough to make the payments.. If that makes any sense. Ive been thinking about trying to get one

If even BOA turns you down when your account and CC is with them I would assume you may have too high of a current debt to offical income ratio. Lenders are finally paying attention to that kind of stuff again.

Do you have a lot of debt on your card?

if that were the case it would say on his denial

the easiest way to build credit is to get a secured loan. I did this a few years ago to boost my score. Take your down payment to a credit union, and tell them you would like a secured loan for the amount $ you have. Their going to give you a check right back. Make a payment or two, then pay it off. Do this 2-3 times, then apply. I boosted my score from a 580 to a 695 over the course of 2 loans and 6 months. It will also be wise of you to pull your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com to make sure there are no errors or omissions on there - and there usually is.

This doesn't give you immediate satisfaction but if you want a real answer, here it is

I'm starting to assume he has a debit card via BOA if he has no credit histroy at all.

When I got my first car loan it was a cake walk because I had a couple CCs I ran all my expenses through in college and always kept paid off.

Like John says though, the credit rating system gives more brownie points for real loans than they do rotating credit.
