Default Ford and GM what's going on ??

When I got off work this morning on of the guys in my department said that Ford was going to ax Mercury by 2012.

Also Cadillac said they are going to be their own independent company. They are leaving GM and will not be affiliated with GM.

Is this just a rumor or is this true ? I haven't really found anything that really supported what he said online.

I don't think Cadillac is going anywhere at all...The new CTS-V SportWagon, CTS-V Coupe, and the 2011/12 Cadillac XTS (for those who want luxury).

Ford's been considering axing Mercury for a while now, and been doing it very slowly. 2010 is the last year for the Panther platform to the public.

I found this a while ago online...

When the Ford Fusion and the Taurus gets redesigned in like 2012, the Mercury version will not be available.

I like the Milian and the Sable versions better then the Ford. The grill, the tails look shit loads better. My 05 Montego/sable looks better to me then the Taurus. The grill, headlights, taillights etc..

mercury only has 4 vehicles and they are all direct copies of ford vehicles. Why not ax the line if it's doing poorly? It will save ford money.

They are working on their "global platform" vehicles now anyways, where every vehicle ford is going to produce will be the same car sold to all markets across the world, another smart move one their part that will save money, streamline production and produce better cars overall.

Mercury's best sales year to date was 1978. It really makes sense to axe 'em. From a nostalgia point of view it sucks, but Ford could use that money elsewhere.
news: Breaking: Ford considers end of Mercury brand

The Caddy thing is just a rumor I suppose. I can't find anything about it anywhere. Wouldn't make any sense for GM to cast off or sell Cadillac anyway. That brand is playing a big part in GM's successful turnaround.

Charles....I love that CTS-V wagon! If only I had the money for one (sigh)
