Default ARGG - Lost Title Help (I can get ahold of owner)

Okay so... I bought my Supra a few months ago and it sat in storage since then... Out of site out of mind (stupid I know), I never registered it. Anyways, sitting here at 2 am I am thinking I will register it tomorrow and what do you know, I cannot find the damn title!

Okay so what do I do now.

I can get a hold of the owner before me. The car has not had a tag in the last year or two from what I remember. However, the title was in his name.

Do I need to supply a bill of sale? Does he have to apply for a new title ($75) and then I need to register the car in my name after (another fee)?

I want to get my ducks in a row before I meet up with him.

Thanks, really appreciate it... I want to light the car on fire right now!

I would call a dmv, and ask them. They are the ones who would have the proper answer for you. For some reason if you even forgot to dot an "i" in a case like this, they break out the highlighter and go crazy on your papers and demand you come back with more people, more signatures, and more money.

Its best to get it right the first time!

Good luck.

The only way to rectify this is to have the previous owner request a new title and sign it over to you again.

Next time you buy a car keep better track of the title since before you transfer it, that title is the only proof the car is yours as far as the state is concerned. A bill of sale is nothing more than a contract between you and the previous owner, the state could care less about it.

I just had to do this With my cheap ass cadillac I bought..

owner lost the title somewhere.. So I made sure He was the registered owner. checked his ID and the registration...

Told Him I would give him 50.00 to go to the court house with me to get me the title and I would pay the title fee.. fuckin 78.50...

He agreed. I took him down there yesterday all he had to do was ask for a dupe title and show his id and tell them for what car..

I got lucky... He never got the original title mailed to his house a mess up from the DMV. So the title reprint was free!!!!

So I handed him 50.00 for going with me.. and he handed me over the new singed over title to me..

I don't know about you, but I think it's retarded that you didn't put the car in your name right away. You're lucky you found the title. It only takes a second. This is probably the reason so many nice cars out their are trying to be sold without titles, because the person who bought the vehicle never transferred the vehicle over to their name. Six months to a year or so go by then they want to put it in their name, but can't because they lost/can't the title. Then you try to locate the previous owner and guess what they can't be found and the DMV says " You're fucked ".

No offense and don't take this the wrong way, but if you can make 4k on a truck just by getting the title and you claim for it to be so easy and you don't want to do it then your a fool. 4K is way better then what your asking. Hope you can find a buyer without a title. I would try people who are into racing and would just want it as a truck for the track. Good luck with it. Should be fast to sell if you put it for sale on the correct forum. Try racing forums.
