Default Buying a car outside of FL?

I've been searching around but can't find any real clear answers (and I am trying to avoid waiting on hold for x-hours with the DMV for an answer).

I'm considering buying a car that is presently titled and registered in Virginia. I will be transfering my existing FL tag to the new car. Aside from the signed title from the seller and a bill of sale, is there anything else I need to make this go smoothly? Should I be able to get the car registered the same day I bring the paperwork to the tag/title office or is there going to be some down time?

Yup. You will probably need a VIN verification so I'd bring the car with you, they had to do that to mine.

From what I was told, when registering any car that came from out of state, they need to verify the VIN by seeing the car in person. From what she said, you just need to bring it to the DMV, NOT to the inspection stations they have around the state (like if you were trying to get a rebuilt title or register a home built car or something). So it seems pretty straight forward.

Thanks for the info.

Not sure if this is going to happen. Going to cost me like $400 to fly up there and bring her back down via AutoTrain which pretty much takes up my financial cushion for misc shit that needs to be addressed with the car. I don't really want to drive this thing back down here (it would probably make it but I don't want to risk it).

I had to do this with a CRX that was registered in Alabama...

had to get the car VIN checked by a car lot. then had to get it notarized..

then took the title down to the court house.. you will also need a bill of sale...

I think they had to mail me the title..
