sorry but you are incorrect. it is 75-80% (depending on insurance company) of the value of the car before it is considered a total.

As I said, you are starting to get into the replace or repair zone around 50%.
Hey, no need to be an a-hole. My insurance company once told me that anything less than 80% they will fix. 81% and higher is considered totaled.
They'd rather fix the car then replace it. Thats just my experience.

Nope, you are wrong and I am right.

It does vary, but a car can be totalled out when repair costs are as low as 50% of repair costs. Read the article I linked from the experts at edmunds if you don't believe me though.

For example, some companies consider a wrecked vehicle a total loss when the total cost to repair it exceeds just 51 percent of the vehicle's ACV. Others don't give up until the repair bill hits the 80-percent mark.

Wasn't trying to be an ass, just letting you know that the percentage varies greatly depending on the car and the insurance company.

Start looking for a new car and don't take the first offer the insurance company tries to give you for your car. If you have anything done to it, find those receipts and make sure they factor everything into it. I totaled my 96 GS-R just from a somewhat minor front end collision and I ended up getting $6,100 from the insurance.

Suspension damage is a killer. A guy I knew got rear ended in his 2000 Eclipse. It looked like just a rear bumper and exhaust system, however when they got under the car it bent up the rear suspension, so the Ins company totaled it. Funny part is he got just as much as he had paid for it 4 years earlier.
