Default 89' Conquest Question about keeping originality POLL

So I have a 1989 Chrysler Conquest TSI. Mint condition, got it from an old lady, its 100% stock.

The shift knob is slightly torn up, and the tape player doesnt work. The only 2 probs with the interior. I cant decide if I should just put a cd player in it and replace the shift knob or leave it exactly how it is. I like that its made it this far without being bastardized, but the lack of good music, and the raggedy-ish shift knob bother me. What does everyone think? Upgrade...or leave it vintage?

I wouldnt worry about the little stuff like that, go ahead and change it. Its the big stuff that matters more. Stereo, knob, even seats and such are no big deal.

Don't mess with the electrical system in these cars. They are huge heaps of shit. My uncle bought a new 89 Starion ..it ended up in my hands when i was about 17/18. Biggest piece of shit car ever made. Electricians and some shops refused to work on it. The cylinder heads on them suck. The electrical system is plagued with gremlins (my cars alarm would go off at like 3/4 in the morning all by itself all the time - I just ended up taking the battery out since I nor any one else could find the issue). The power windows would quit rolling/up/down. The A/C would only work when it felt like it. The heat and or AC would turn on, on its own randomly.

As far as modifying them goes... Forget about the stock cylinder head it's trash. The entire fuel injection system would need to be replaced (if not for supporting extra horsepower ... just for some sense of real reliability!)

My suggestion is. Keep the car only if you are going to use it on weekends. Otherwise get rid of it. These cars are huge heaps of shit. The final point of assembly should have had a exit that sent these cars straight into the junkyard if you ask me.

if you answer yes to these questions, then keep the stock stuff:
-is it a classic/collector?
-will you get more money for it having a shit tape deck with speakers that sound like a swarm of bees?
-do you enjoy listening to old bonjovi tapes?

in short, cut your mullet and buy a cd player.

the cars arent that bad. they just have an overcomplicated system that most people dont want to touch or know where to start.

a cd player is fine in any car....a bunch of speakers and wires everywhere looks horrible though. as for shift knob, id just use a 2g gst/x shift knob. its simple, clean, oem and functions great. i always used it while at the races.
