Think again, because it's a full 2 1/2 seconds faster than a NISMO 370Z at Virginia International raceway!!!
Car and Driver did the lightning lap again this year with a bunch of cars, pretty interesting results. Check it out!!

The Lightning Lap, 2009 - Feature - Auto Reviews - Car and Driver

Lap times:
LL1: 2010 Volkswagen GTI > 3:19.3
LL1: 2009 Mini Cooper John Cooper Works > 3:17.1
LL1: 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX > 3:16.6
LL1: 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 > 3:16.2
LL1: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 > 3:14.8
LL1: 2010 Ford Mustang GT > 3:13.3
LL2: 2009 Nissan NISMO 370Z > 3:12.0
LL2: 2010 Audi S4 > 3:10.8
LL2: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS > 3:09.5
LL2: 2009 Audi TTS > 3:08.4
LL2: 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 > 3:07.4
LL2: 2009 BMW M3 > 3:05.4
LL2: 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport > 2:58.8
LL3: 2010 Jaguar XKR > 3:06.4
LL3: 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S > 3:05.8
LL3: 2009 Porsche Cayman S > 3:05.8
LL3: 2009 Lotus Exige S 260 Sport > 3:05.0
LL3: 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 > 2:51.8
LL4: 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI > 2:59.5
LL5: 2010 Lamborghini Murciélago LP670-4 SV > 2:53.9
LLU: Ariel Atom 3 > 2:57.6 and KTM X-Bow > 2:52.3

And yes the ZR1 is faster than a Ariel atom in this track
The M3 is pretty impressive! Sick lux car with same time as the Porsche's. And I'm pretty sure the 2010 mustang GT with the 5.0L 415hp will be a lil faster than the camaro, not by much tho! This one is lacking power big time with the 4.6 300hp but still did a respectable time compared with the NISMO!
The fastest car still the Viper ACR from 2008, SICK car!! Read the article, it's pretty cool.

my my my this was a great way to start my morning

Car Videos and More at CARandDRIVER.com - Find Car Specifications

the Audi R10 ... drool. It was interesting to hear the braking in a straight line from a high speed made the front end move around a bit.

And I am a bit surprised at the Camaro. I finally had the opportunity to sit one at the car show in Orlando and the feel the car gave me was odd. It felt like a box and that I was looking through a squished rectangle for the windshield. It made me wonder how I would manage the car at an autox, feeling the corners of the car to manuever through the set course of cones.

We missed the opportunity to test drive one at the show but I do hope to get to drive one to see what it feels like.

Thanks for the find.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

and as a result of the test, Nissan is now putting in different, more track oriented pads. If not for the brake pads washing out, the results would be a little different. No word on any wheel weights having to be added to keep the brakes quiet though

By car and driver:

We struggled to get a good lap time out of the NISMO 370Z, although it did beat the previous-gen Z car (equipped with the Track package) by half a second. Part of the NISMO’s problem is that it feels heavy despite a relatively modest 3385-pound curb weight. Great track cars seem to shrink the harder they’re driven, but not the Z. Even with enormous grip from its Yokohama Advan Sports, the Z feels uncomfortable and slightly disconnected when pressed. A high-effort shifter fights quick gearchanges, and the 350-hp V-6’s character turns coarse as it runs to redline. We also wondered whether all 350 ponies showed up.
----------------------------------------------

So it was not just a brake problem, they did a couple laps before the brakes started fading and couldn't get a better time, but once the brakes faded the car was just gone!

Nah, it needs some of those cylinders.

Cool results, some things I didn't expect to see.

Neat results, but doesn't mean much to me. I'll never race a stock car around the track.
