Default 2011 5.0 Mustang

Autoweek spills more beans on the 2011 Ford Mustang's 5.0-liter V8 — Autoblog

I guess the cats out of the bag

412hp
390tq

Now thats a mustang I could get behind the wheel of. I liked the 2010 mustang before, but this one really hits the spot, especially if they can keep the price down.

FYI I hate the GT500 mustang.

that is badass. If they could make one on a diet, i.e a completely different car that's like 2/3rds the price, weight and horsepower with irs I really think they could fuck with the young market.

you're welcome ford, i just gave you the recipe to success

They've done well with live axles for years.. They used the IRS in some of the Cobras but there were wishy washy reviews on it. The 2010 Mustang already outhandles the Camaro and Challenger, which is impressive considering Mustangs have never been able to turn.

I'm excited for this new motor. With 315hp they were just behind the SRT-8 Challenger, and a bit behind the Camaro SS. With 100 more, as long as they're not adding weight (aluminum 5.0 IIRC), then they're set for success.

Bench racing does nothing! Can't wait to see these cars roll off the line.

Ford has been going in the right direction with the Mustang. More so than Chevy/Dodge.

IRS isnt that much of an issue in reality. It handles very well and Roush has already seen to upgrading the suspension to make it work even better.

The key to my interest is weight or the Mustangs considerable lack of it compared to other domestic RWD cars. I think the Mustang is a much better balanced package. Plus this new 5.0L V8 of theirs should be a real killer.

Funny how in the third gen pony cars, the original pushrod 5.0 was the killer of GM's 305 TPI motor... Now, here we are for model year 2011, and Ford's 5.0 should be the killer of the Camaro/Challenger. It'd be REALLY cool to see the 2011 Stang go on a diet though, as that'd really help it out in the longrun. Wonder what the overall specs are on the motor (compression, in particular) since the 4.6's are normally very boost-friendly!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say 410hp from a 5.0 liter isnt going to be boost friendly in stock trim, or atleast not like previous motors. If you want to compare similar motors look up the 5.0L V8 in the ISF because they are probably similar in over all design.

I know ford has been working on this motor for a few years now, and the fact that its a DOHC all aluminum V8 with twin variable valve timing says alot about they're progress towards a more updated V8

Only downside I see to this is that aftermarket parts (Cams mostly) are still going to cost alot more than the LSx motors due to there being more crap. But if this motor is anything like some of the german small bore V8's it just takes an exhuast and a little tuning to gain 50+hp

They use force induction on the 5.0 cammer motor don't see why this wouldn't be a candidate for it

I really dont like the styling of the Challengers or Camaros, but Im liking the new Mustang. With the boost in power its getting to be the best choice. Both auto and stick are 6 speed, v6 has 300+ hp and v8 400+ hp. Its also far lighter than the other muscle cars. Its around 3500, compared with around 4000 for the v8 Dodge and Chevy.

Though Ive been a GM guy, stuff like this is really showing why Ford didnt need the govt bailout and the other 2 did.
