propane injection
the new fad isnt nitrous anymore now its propane. i have recently been hearing of a few cars using it as well as a local 9 second supra. it is used in the same way as nitrous however i am curious as to the benefits of it over nitrous.
im open to comments and thoughts on this new form and im still looking for websites that hold research and information about this. pros and cons?
i guess well all be seeing big white bottles in the back of show cars and kids with propane stickers now lol.
quick lets grab a stainless line a pressure regulator a nozzle and get dads propane tank from the bar-b-que grille
hank hill would have a heart attack if he heard that!
seriously thoughts...

Im not 100% sure on this but I believe on a gasoline engine the propane is used as a secondary fuel for a propane/nitrous wet kit. It still sprays nitrous but instead of extra gas sprayed in as well it sprays in propane. Added benifits of propane is naturally very high octane....like 120 or so. Also it comes out very cold just like nitrous and will not puddle in the intake...so no nitrous backfire in intake. I believe BTR Motorsports (Vipers) has a kit for sale.
On deisel motors I believe it is injected by itsel into the intake and can raise hp immensely due to the nature of the deisel.
On a turbo car like the supra with high boost.....hmmmm...not sure how they are using it....maybe as a secondary fuel injected at WOT to cool the intake charge further and enrich the mixture with a very high octane fuel at the same time. Sounds interesting. Any links to propane products for cars???

This is very popular on deisel motors as Al mentioned. It has been around for a while. Yes to the high octane but I think no on the nitrous help. Just turbo motors for some reason. But dont quote:a9762d71f6 me.
See and you guys thought you knew it all.
Every here of filling a oil pan with nitrous ? Or spray a air filter with lots of aerosol (sp?) ? ?
I learned a few things when I worked for that sprint car team back in the day.

BTR motorsports does make a nitrous/propane kit. I know that much for sure. Make it for Vettes and Vipers.Works very well...I have run the BTR motorsports viper on Gandy a few times...very fast. He runs 10.3s at mid 130s using a 200 wet shot od Propane/nitrous.

In a nutshell you can fill your oil pan right before a race with nitrous and during the next pass on the motor the nitrous will dispense into the cylinders via the oil passages. This will not give huge gains but pretty good ones.

There is a lot of testing you have to do with this method to get it right. First you have to see how long it takes your particular motor to come up to the temperature to dispense the nitrous you have to find the correct method of getting the juice into the oil pan and finally and most importantly you have to tune the motor correctly.
This was supposedly the way the Dodge Boys were cheating a few years ago in the NHRA Pro Stock class.

That is a new one for me. Seems like there would be some other ways to make additional H.P. w/o messing with that. Oh well more power to them (literally).
Al is correct with diesels..it allows us to burn ALL of the fuel that we inject into the cylinders..making the efficiency crazy good. I am not going to do it..because too much propane will ruin the engine with little warning..and a new diesel engine for my truck is upwards of five grand...no thanks
