I'm looking to get the windshield tinted on my Z, and was wondering if anyone has experience with reflective/mirror tint. I have whatever is legal on the side-windows and rear glass, but the front obviously lets in a ton of heat, and want to tint it. Does the reflective tint block as much heat or more as regular tint? My other alternative is 38% window tint, which is slightly lighter than most car front windows. Any info is appreciated.

 

When I got my windows tinted a couple years ago they told me that the only legal tint on the front windshield is a small strip at the top. If you are thinking about tinting the whole windshield you might want to do some checking first.

 

I know its not legal, I'm not worried about that.

 

do the lightest possible tint for the WHOLE FRONT WINDSHIELD if you can. i think you have to pay CASH if you have this done.

 

I've got a tint guy that does whatever I want, but haven't been able to get ahold of him to ask. So you think regular tint will block more than mirror? Would mirror tint on the whole windshield just make it look really clean?

You should be able to tint the whole front windshield of you use the 3M crystalline tint... if you can find a place that has it. It's so light it doesn't look like it's tinted at all so cops won't hassle you, but it blocks most UV light. They have 3 shades of it, that only block like 10-15-20% of visible light if I remember right. I'd like to get that stuff put on my own car.

As for mirror tint, I've never used it myself but a friend had it installed on all his side windows and rear, and he said it cut down inside temps noticeably.

 

On my end of town, mirror tint is a cop attractor.
No breaks, no excuses, hold your hand out for the ticket.

A "legal" tint is to go side to side from the small marks on the glass edges.

It can be measured horizontally with a level between the marks, instead of following the roof contour.....and that will run it further down the glass in the center.....yet it still goes from mark to mark....

Most shops are in a hurry and follow the roof contour, giving you less tint.-Bob
