Yep...man that sucks. I watched him race yesterday...and he almost lost it then too. Track conditions were horrible. Some things are going to change in Pro 5.0.

I think he has run 6.7s at well over 200 mph. I believe he is the fastest of the Pro 5.0 cars.

In Orlando the Fun Ford Weekend was sat and sun. The wind conditions were horrible. gusting and swilrling. Yesterday Dan Flowers from Idle Wild wrecked his Pro Outlaw(?) car going about 130 mph and bounced off the wall a few times. He was ok though. After that they postponed the Pro 5.0 cars due to wind and sand on the track. Later on Sat the Pro 5.0 guys did make it through one round...most were not able to make full passes due to being all over the track. Steve Grebeck almost lost it yesterday too.
Conditions were the same today but everyone decided to run anyways. During a run today he got loose around the 1000 foot mark and got airborne than rolled. he was airlifted to the hospital. Thats all i know so far.

It was the most horrific thing I have ever seen. He was racing Bill Rimmer as soon as the cars launched a 30 mph crosswind picked up. It was windy all weekend long just like Hybrid SS said. He lost it on the top end and went to straight to the guard rail. Heres the official statement from FFWs website.....
During eliminations today at the Fun Ford Weekend 2002 season opener in Orlando Florida (The Spring Break Shootout) well known Pro 5.0 racer Steve Grebeck was killed during eliminations. Mr. Grebeck who was in the right lane was pitted against another well known Pro 5.0 personality Bill Rimmer who was in the left lane. During the run about 1000 feet out Steve Grebecks car suddenly veered to the left and shot across the track and went air born in front of Bill Rimmers Pro 5.0 car. Rimmers car hit Grebecks race car at over 200 MPH causing a huge fire ball and Grebecks car to be hurled 15 to 20 feet into the air nose up. Amazingly Rimmers car then crossed the finish line slidding and still light the time boards with a 7.19 elapsed time.
Emergency personnel rushed to the scene but we are told that Steve Grebeck was already dead from massive head and bodily injuries. Regardless Mr. Grebeck was air lifted to the hospital while Bill Rimmer was not seriously injured.
At this time the track has been shut down and the event has been canceled. This is due to Florida state investigators being brought in to investigate this tragic accident. It was announced that the event will be finished next month during the Fun Ford Weekend event in Commerce Georgia. We will keep everyone updated to further information as it becomes available.
All of our prayers and sympathy go out to the entire Grebeck family Bill Rimmer and all the Pro 5.0 racers and FFW participants who are effected by this horrible tragedy.
