Next BMW M5 to feature twin-turbo V10 with 600 hp
The next BMW M5 is due to arrive sometime in 2011 or 2012 and as the release date draws near, more details about BMW's newest 'Bahn-burner have begun to surface.
Two reports indicate that BMW may continue to use a V10 powerplant in the next M5, although there's still some evidence that the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 currently fitted to the X5M and X6M could be tweaked and fitted in its place. However, if BMW decides to stick with the bent-ten, a thoroughly revised version based off the 'utes' V8 would be employed, packing a duo of turbos to boost output up and over the 600 hp mark, and giving the Audi RS6 a run for its money.
But it won't be all about power. BMW is also expected to use an F1-style KERS system to increase performance and fuel economy, along with an engine start-stop setup and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. If the rumors are to be believed, expect the next M5 to make its debut sometime in 2011, with sales beginning in early 2012.

According to actuall Techs, this info is wrong, a twin turbo V8 will actually get find it's way in the bay of the upcoming M5, not a TT V10...thanks guys

that information is wrong, because the next M5 will get a TT V8, like the one of the X6 Xdrive 5.0i, F01/F02 750i and X5 / X6 M.....just with a little bit more punch.

It's not getting a booster V10. I work for BMW, and believe it or not they give us lots of details about upcoming changes to models, even years in advance, such as the 2011 model Z4-M roadster, which will have a twin-turbo I6. Certain info isn't shared, but we got a newsletter last week that shows what they have in works for next year, and the info on the 2011 5 series is in there, re-designed from the ground up, but the M5 is getting a V10, not booster in any way.

The F10 M5 will get a TT V8, and thatīs a fact.
Iīm a BMW Service Technician in Germany, the Engineers and Trainers in Munich told me this the last time i was in Munich on the ST Meeting, so itīs a first hand information.
And why is it a fact?.....well, because there is already a TT V8 for the M Models,
the upcoming X5 M and X6 M:

so why should BMW build another engine, they already have a new one!
@Ink
Maybe you could scan that newsletter and send it to me?
I just want to read it by myself.
The newer I6 Engines will get a Single Twinscroll-Turbocharger, itīs cheaper to build and easyer to service than the "old" TT Setup.
