New or Used?
Heres a thought provoker..
Say you have a certain amount to spend on a new car. And your options are: 1) brand new average car (FWD) or 2) used (3-4 year old and 30-50k miles) more upscale sportier car (RWD or AWD). All vehicles in question have an aftermarket and are tuneable. The used vehicle will probably have slightly more power in stock form.
Which would you pick and why?

in all honesty i would have to know what the cars are i am picking from. that way i can debate the liking for said car and do some aftermarket price comparisons and how that relates to added power for the buck i am spending.

Used--and heres why. Vehicle Depreciation. As soon as you drive that vehicle off the lot its worth thousands less. Depending on whether you pay cash outright or get a loan you may be upside down. And this may be for quite some time. Personally Ive never owned a brand new car and I have no use for one--cuz if you want to do ANY modifications it AUTOMATICALLY voids the warranty which is one of the reasons people buy new cars. And there arent any cars out there (that most people can realistically afford) that are fast enough for me to be happy with stock. Buy the used car mod it out go fast--leave the new car for the extra daily driver that you have no desire to race

New:
2002 Drivers Edition GTI with 1.8T (assuming it comes here)
2002 Passat 1.8T
Used:
1999-2001 Audi A4 1.8T quattro
1997-98 BMW M3
This will be a daily driver and wont be modded much at first. Possibly just a chip to the 1.8T cars. I have other cars to tend to right now.
I will also be keeping this car for a while assuming its not jynxed like my GTI.
i would take the bmw. i am not a fan of newer vws they are a pain to work and proven by many in these forums once one thing goes bad the car becomes a rolling shit box of bad luck. besides m3s are just so pretty

Id go for the Audi.. They depreciate like a stone so one should be cheap but they have a 4 year maint included warranty so you might be able to get the dealer to bring it up to a clean level if there is some warranty left. They also give you a loaner while they are working on it. You say you want to delay mods so wait for the warranty to run out...
The 1.8T has a lot of mod potential.
