Exhaust?
What are some of the benefits of a custom turbo back exhaust? I want to use a hks hi power muffler but my own custom exhaust system will this help with power or would i be better off just buying a hks hi power system: the car is a s14.
will depend on the quality of your custom one. if ti flows better than the hks then stick with it, if not then don't

Look into the Ebay 3" exhausts, they are very high quality and MUCH cheaper than what you're looking at. The one I got for the Eclipse is "SRS" brand but its basically an Apex'i knock off. Great fitment.
Here's one for a 240SX (3") from the same seller:
89 90 91 93 94 92 240sx s13 sr20 3" SS CATBACK EXHAUST :eBay Motors (item 350204400742 end time May-27-09 11:53:23 PDT)
I'm sure you can find downpipes on there too but my setup for the 420A is custom so I didn't look.

any exhaust that comes with a silencer means one of two things.... its either ungodly loud or sounds like shit.
in this case probably both
Unless you have a bunch of money to spend, or if you HAVE to have the coolest name brand things on your car, I would recommend going with an Ebay exhaust. I had a 3" tbe on my suby and loved it. It was on there for about 3 years and I never had one issue, and it sounded great.
If your car is turbo'd I would recommend sticking with a 3" TBE. The sound shouldnt be raspy since the turbo will act like a muffler, and you will also obviously have the muffler at the end of the exhaust.
Also you arent going to notice any real difference in power from one brand to the next as long as they are the same diameter.

IN my experience most knockoffs sound like poop. I have an apexi n1 and a knock off n1, one on each sr20det and the real one sounds worlds better.

when it comes to your car dont be cheap youll end up spending 2x the amount you originally planned on spending replacing cheap shit.
