LACR Palmdale CA-Barely one month after capturing the NIRA Pro FWD championship at Palmdales famed high-elevation drag strip Stephan Papadakis and the AEM Drag Civic coupe returned to LACR to lay claim to the IDRC/APEXi Outlaw Class Championship!
Stephs IRDC Class victory came on the heels of a world-record-breaking pass in San Antonio of 8.12 @180.00 mph and is a fitting ending to a dominating year by the AEM Drag Civic and its crew which suffered only one loss this season.
Stephan captured the victory after defeating Ray Lockheads SR Motorsports Mazda RX-7 in the final round of competition with an 8.56-second pass at 174.86 mph. It was the only competitive elimination pass the AEM Civic made at the event as the competitors in the first two rounds of competition were no shows after qualifying Saturday. Stephans pass in the finals was the fastest competitive pass in Outlaw Class competition all weekend! Steph also had the best e.t. of the weekend during qualifying rounds posting a 8.49 @ 176 mph on Saturday.
The IRDC Finals marked the end of an incredible season for Papadakis Racing and the AEM Drag Civic. Stephan and the crew will be back next year with a larger event schedule and a few more tricks up their sleeves. Log on to stephanpapadakis.com or aempower.com for a tentative 2002 race schedule.
