thinking about buying a 2001-2002 mazda Miata... what are your opinions? are these solid cars?

Nice first post.

 

fun car to drive if you can get past the stigma of it being for "gays and girls". As long as you know that up front, the Miata is a real nice choice.

 

If you are 6' 4 a up your head will be above the windshield.

 

Very solid car. But it takes 93 octane.

 

I don't like the 01-02's. Either buy a NA (89-97, with the 94-97 models having the marginally peppier 1.8L) or buy a NC (2005-present). But, really it's whatever you feel comfortable with since I assume it's you who will be driving it.

 

Neither of my cars say to take 91/93 octane in the manual; the Miata especially. The only Miata that "needs" premium is the 04/05 Mazdaspeed (turbo).

Miata is an excellent car with great gas mileage and dumb fun in turns.

The community is excellent too; all sorts of experienced guys who road race and auto cross on the weekends, and even Corky Bell to chime in (no pun intended) for turbo knowledge and aftermarket kits and parts.

Most of all, you have to be ready for flak from people . All sorts of jokes, quips, and gaydom comes with the car..so if you arent a man who can handle it, look elsewhere.

 

These guys have fun in them.

and yes, great cars, better community and lots of flak from those that drive cars that look meaner but actually perform worse then the Miata. Lots of hate from those with egos and complexes..
