HOW MUCH DOES IT COST
to import a car from another country? ive been thinking about the possibilities of importing an S3 or A3 over from mexico (closest place to get one) does anyone know how much it costs to get it registered and legalized with the DOT????

the car has to be bumper tested and approved in order for it to be street legal in the states. getting it from mexico would be much cheaper than from europe but either way its all in the testing to make it street legal. try www.motorx.com i think thats the addy they import and sell skyline and lancers so they might have the info that your looking for.

holy shit...i just called motorex over in california...and you wanna take a guess at what he said to me? the whole process can cost between $250000 to $750000 umm...bullshit? anyone know otherwise? seems kinda steap to bring a 25k car over from the mex.
He probably said that because in order for them to sell say Skylines they have to crash test a few of them and also tear them apart so that they can make them street legal. A very long process.
I met someone who had brought over one of the older Polo G40s. He said that you can bring them over for like a 1-2 year period and then they have to be returned (I think). You are also not allowed to sell the car once its here. He got to keep the car in the states due to a technicality on the title. I think he lives in St. Pete maybe Tampa.
