i'd take it, eventually they'll be laid off. Take it, but a new car and put the left over in the bank.

Getting laid is NOT the same as getting nothing

Seriously though, I'm surprised that they are doing this at all, considering how many thousands and thousands of employees were already laid off and probably for much less. Its nice that they are at least doing this much for them.

Plus, considering that you can no doubt get some sort of employee discount (which is the same thing as Joe Schmo from the street walking in and buying a car ) and rebates etc., you can get a real nice vehicle for very little. Its just a question of if you think its worth it to lose your job for the car (according to my roommate last year, finding a job in Detroit is impossible) or being able to predict when you'd lose your job.

Good luck with that. You might get 8k out of that 20k-25k voucher after it was over..

so the bailout $ was just as a i thought, a band-aide for a company that wouldn't be able to make a quick recovery which we all knew they wouldn't. how could they?

$20k to early retire - okay i get that

$20k to any union employee - is there a cap on the number of employees who can take this offer? Will they also get unemployment? I think they can.

$20k mutliplied by the possible number of employees eligible or who will take the offer = R&D, Marketing $, Turn Around $, Debt Paid, etc. all lost

Also I wonder what the real $ amount is for a severance package for some of these employees would be since they are throwing in the $25k for them to purchase a car.

man i got to <3 the future investments the gov't is making for my $ ... very well done ... my hats off to you

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

I would rather get money than an asset that depreciates faster than a boat anchor in the Atlantic Ocean.

also, if these employees are in Detroit they will most likely have to relocate to find a new job seeing that it is a gold rush town with no other viable means of supporting the people. 20k disappears quickly when moving a family.
