Exclamation Question about universal cat converter by muffler shop

my miata is throw CEL on cat converter (got the code from advance auto parts and a pro work shop) and oem cat converter plus labor is $1000 at local dealership but a local muffler shop is only asking for $150 which is included labor and parts and 5 year warranty on a universal cat converter .
my question is ..does universal cat converter do the same job and as reliable as the oem cat converter?
thanks

It's the same thing for the most part, functions the same, the only way it's universal is because it has no flanges, you just weld a flange on or weld it straight up.
You could gut the cat or run a test pipe and then get a mil eliminator.

I think even $150 for a universal cat installed is rather on cheap side. Those parts are usually a $150+ just for the part

you get what you pay for. The cheaper aftermarket stuff does not flow nearly as well
