Default best travel car

looking for a car to travel cross country in. kinda like a mini suv type deal. needs to be good in snow and gas, have a spacious truck/hatch back to sleep in. reliable obviously and cheap would be nice. under 20k. not looking for a minivan because this would be my daily driver. any suggestions?

Best highway car I ever had was a 1989 lincoln town car. Ran it for three years as my backup/vacation car, and a couple of months as a private airport taxi. Sat great at highway speed, bench seat was more comfortable than most couches. Two adults can sleep comfortably in those cars.

But it couldn't tow, got 17 mpg downhill, ate through tires every 45,000 miles, and I was always under the hood fixing electrical problems. Plus the power windows were a bitch to repair.
