This happened to my buddys 04' 745Li. It gave them a lot of problems when they replaced the battery - IDK what it was exactly, but I'd say have BMW do it to avoid any issues.

 

Do you not have the actual key at all? Sometimes the car gets stuck between active and off and you need to insert the key and then take it back out but don't yank it out push it in and let it eject....Used to happen sometimes when I valeted.... G/L

 

well i found out how to disengage the shift lock deal, on the smart key there is a separate actual key that comes out so you can move the car. im 90% sure its the battery, and in that case ill have to have a new one installed and bring it to bmw so they can flash the car.

 

Isnt it still under warranty? 745's were notoriously suspect to electrical gremlins.

 

under the hood is a red cap with a + plus on it. Slightly to the left of that should be a bar sticking off the side of engine bay, this is the ground.

 

tell the person who drives that BMW NOT to overuse the I-Drive and/or Nav System when the motor isn't running charging up the battery, because the electronical gadgets will fart suck the battery.

 

what a piece of poopy this car is, wont jump start and you have to bring it to bmw to get a new battery.
