Abs in the snow is the stuff of legends. I cant tell you how hard it is to slow down with out it. I pretty much cant even use the brakes, just let the engine do all the work.

But aside that im not to keen to it and much prefer a car without it for "racing."

Not by any significant amount, all things being equal. The Viper did not get ABS until 2001. At that time there was very little difference between the 2001 Viper and my 1998 Viper. I've driven both extensively and while I never got the chance to spend a day with both at the skid pad IMO there was no significant advantage in stopping difference.

This board has a little higher percentage if enlighted car folks than the average public but I still think it's important to have the discussion. While we may disagree on some points of ABS it's scary that there are many people who do think ABS and the other electronic nannies make them invincible.

Different cars have different mentallities behind the wheel. The minivan driver is not going to have the same train of thought as a sportscar driver. It's that difference that makes the nannies a safety measure on a minivan and a potential liability on a sportscar. Wrecked exotics has tons of nannie equiped wrecks and I'm sure a large portion of them thought they really were invincible.

It's not foolproof, but it definitely helps.
How about when a pedestrian is crossing the road and nearby sprinklers have coated the road? Im sure all it would take is one second of lockup and he/she's dead.
Scenarios can be made for everything. The bottom line is which potential scenarios are most likely. It is my belief that the "invincibleness" of an ABS equiped sports car is more likely than the pedestrian getting hit by a non-ABS sports car.

Sports car? The road is made up of a majority of commuter cars, not sports cars.
If ABS helps in one out of a million cases, it still helped! Youre talking about your viper, which has very large tires. The average commuter car doesn't have 1/10th your stopping ability.

Of course it is. But if you go back and read my posts I am referring to sports cars. I'm all for minivans and the like having all the electronic nannies, but sports car drivers are a different mentallity.

Oh, I apologize, then. I didn't see that you were referring to sports cars only.
My opinion on sports cars is identical to yours: ABS has no place. If i'm at the track, I want full control over my car. I don't want a computer cutting in and modifying my input.

You don't actually refer to ABS in sports cars till post #22.
So until that point it, for all we knew you were referring to every car on the road.

I wouldnt mind it on my sports cars, I much rather have it then not personally.

I do agree 100% that people think there invincable. people on rx8 club are always talking about how there dcs and traction control should never be turned off, they save you all the time etc.. I think those hurt you though personally

What I've learned about ABS (at least GM's iteration of it) is that it sucks.

On my S10, the brakes will still lock up, just momentarily. It could still get you in trouble.

The biggest thing I hate about ABS is that in certain situations, ABS actually increases stopping distance. There are many times where I'm stopping fine, but I'll run across a paint stripe or grease spot, and the truck starts bouncing around and the steering wheel is shaking like crazy and the truck just keeps on cruising.

For me, I can do without it quite nicely.
