doubt it, polar changes can come swift with little warning. human civilization isn't going anywhere unless we blow each other up or we get hit by an asteroid.

Well I'm a Geography major and have taken a shit ton of treehugger courses. As far as I know the Ozone has nothing to do with our cars. It is affected by chlorofluorocarbons which came from refrigerants, solvents, and foam blowing agents. Some of which don't use CFC anymore and its the chlorine that reaches the atmoshere that damages the ozone. Global warming is a totally differant problem caused by extra greenhouse gases in the atmoshere trapping more heat then normal. This is all part of the Carbon cycle and is totally normal. The more CO2 in the air the hotter it gets the more rain we have. The more rain the less CO2 that is in the atmoshere and the colder it will get. Basically rain takes the stuff out of the air and into the sea were it goes to the bottom and gets pushed into the Earth threw plate techtonics. Plants also can absorb a ton. Then Volcanos throw the CO2 back into the air. Now anyone with common sense knows that we are adding extra CO2( and other gases) into the atmoshere which in my opinion is just increasing the Earths natural cycle. The fear most have is if there is a tipping point from which the natural cycle is broken and the Earth doesnt recover from it. Now I do beleive many are blowing it out of portion in order to make money, get elected, or whatever. Even if the US did something other countries would do shit about it like China and India which do more harm then we do. As another person said it could lead to the EArth freezing and then we will need alot of CO@ in the atmoshere to heat us up again ..

Now this is a basic, basic answer you could write many books on everthing that is envolved

Here is some site on the ozone: epa is pretty good source..

Good post, but I remember hearing that America is the worlds largest consumer/ and does the most damage due to our lifestyles etc, despite us being way smaller than some of the other countries?

Yeah we do our share, but unlike developing nations such as China and India we have to follow international laws that were passed to protect the environment. All developing nations received a pass since it would hurt their development or something. Soon both of these countries will pass us in the amount of automobiles on the road if they haven't already. I beleive all the really bad polluted cities or in developing nations such as Mexico City, Shanghi, and Dubi. I just think if the international community is going to put laws on everyone they need to apply it to everyone equally. I'm putting my money that China will never sign shit and will just continue to lie about the air quality in their county

And then we fast forward 75-100 years. We turn into a worldwide united economy, were there are universal regulations on everything and as a whole we graduate into Type 1 civilization, after new advances in technology, setting our differences, and harnessing all the available power of our planet (instead of relying primarily on fossil fuels). Either that or our intolerance gets the best of us and we end up destroying ourselves, and or set ourselves backwards 100 years or more in progress. It's 50/50 scenario in which, as of now, our progress is displaying more to the later.

There are many factors the look at. We will have to remove our dependence of energy away from dead plants (oil/coal). Once this fundamental change in energy dependence is under way and the next technological/industrial revolution begins, it will set the stages for huge planetary trading blocks such as the European Union and what will be NAFTA (U.S., Canada, Mexico), as well as ASEAN (Asia/China/Japan, etc.) and the African Union to begin to melt together globally as advances in technology no longer limit our effectiveness at communication, commerce, and trade over great distances.

This will be an interesting century no doubt. There are many new technologies, economic and universal interests that are going to plant the seeds, foundation, and future of the world as it evolves into a global economy. Whether or not we make it as a civilization or not is depending on how this century plays out. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

It's more like a 99.999% chance that we step back 15,000 years. We very briefly hit Type 1 on the Kardashev scale for a few nanoseconds in the last century, and we had to detonate thermonuclear weapons to do it. In fact, we have regressed quite a bit. We no longer have supersonic passenger flight, we are to revert from space shuttles to space capsules in under a decade, our data transfer abilities are limited by switching technology from the late 1960's, market communism has replaced capitalism, and either Marxism or fascism will soon replace our last shreds of democracy. Even our produce has lost over 40% of its nutrient value, for the sake of green-revolution fueled population growth. Not to mention that in under a decade, natural gas supplies will go into terminal decline, which will rapidly make chemical fertilizers unavailable at any price. It's a simple overshoot scenario, which will play out over the next few decades.

We are well on the path to destroying ourselves, and humanity has a tendency to follow the path of least resistance. A "Star Trek" future seems less likely than a "Mad Max" future at this point.

I never seen it.^

I dont know if Ethanol fuels ( e85 ) will make any dent in helping the enviroment, or slow down any sort of war on oil, but I know it will allow our country to be more self sufficent on fuels, and less pollutants/emissions from exhaust.
But who cares about all that, the real reason I cant wait to get it is because Ill be able to run race gas like timing/ fuel maps with much more boost daily for the cost of less than 87 octane!~
