Whats a syncro?

 

That trick is fine in emergencies but I avoid it at other times now. I used to shift without the clutch all the time just for fun, even in my DSM which I knew was tempting fate given the DSM tranny reputation. One day I was being particularly lazy and inattentive and I didn't hold it against the next gear firmly enough. When the RPM matched up I only pushed the lever in halfway and it was the most horrible grinding gear gnashing experience I've ever had. After that I couldn't flat shift into third above 6000rpm- one bad clutchless shift screwed up the synchro in my rebuilt trans.

So yeah, great for emergencies, but I'd avoid it at other times unless you just don't care about the car, in which case it's a lot of fun to play around with. Stop and go traffic is no fun- although technically your car becomes a "hybrid" as you are constantly cranking the starter in gear to get the car moving again.

I would consider that pretty damn frequent.

 

I dont remember the last time I stalled out.. I'm pretty good driving a stick, and rev-match everytime while downshifting.. To answer the questions, it would be YES. lol

 

The last time I stalled was sometime in 06. It wasn't as much of a stall by operator error but more of the car shutting off because the alternator was a piece of shit.

The FIRST time I stalled though ( ) was the first day I ever drove a stick - when I was driving my car home from just buying it. I stalled at a green light and some guy in a yellow vette almost slammed in the back of me. He got out and yelled at me and I almost cried.

I learned pretty quickly after that.

I've been driving a manual tranny in a car or truck for 24 years, every now and then if I'm not paying attention, I won't push the clutch in all the way and grind second gear.

Just last week I stalled out my Honda on the grid at a autocross, pretty embarrasing.

Yeah that's right, I admit it.

 

last time i stalled out when i hit a tree and flipped over lol.......but yea i can drive stick
