I read this mourning that GN had decided to stop producing the Camaro and Firebrid next year and close the plant near Montreal that builds them to cut cost. GM said that Camaro sales dropped 26% this year and Firebird sales dropped 28%. GM said that the demand for sports car delined 53% between 1990 adn 2000 as many of those buyer switched to trucks or sport utilities.
I think is sad that the Camaro is going away. Ford is going to be happy with this.

Yeah they are morons. They should keep them around. Hell look at ford. They are looking into the future. They know that sales will be picking up. They are making different variants of the mustand in years to come. But really GM should have stopped making the camaro when they put a 190 hp V8 in them. Sorry Joe.

 

hey now--i love stangs but some of the early 80s 5.0s only made like 165hp....

 

Unfortunately this may mean the decline of the Mustang as well. The Mustang has no competition and no performance benchmark coming from GM. Why would Ford continue putting more powerful motors into the Mustang when they have already cornered of the pony-car market? Im not a fan of GM or F-bodies in particular but we need them out there to continually push Ford into producing faster and better Mustangs.

 

Unfortunatly GM doesnt make anything GOOD. Why not make a car that LOOKS good. Why not put a hi power engine in the car and make it inexpensive and dependable and aim it to the KID market.

They do stupid its called the FBody. Most kids I know love TAs and insurance rates are already super high for them. Also Dont you remember watching the Allstate commercial about Camaros TAs and Mustangs...that certainly didnt help.

And as for dropping the FBody when it had 190hp TBI 305s. If you did your homework there werent many cars short of exotics that had over 200-250hp during say 78-83. The 300+rwhp coming out of them now is enough to keep them around.
